PRV reliefs at around 70 psi.

My compressor initially was not shutting off and I could feel air escaping in the general vicinity of the PRV. It is old so I thought the PRV might have a bad o-ring or seal so I bought a new one. Now I don't feel a leak anymore but the PRV blows at about 70psi and the compressor continues to run trying to get to cut-off pressure. Did I buy a low pressure PRV or could the new one be defective. Thanks

Hi Whit. I'm sorry, since you didn't ask me to come with you, so I wasn't there, I don't know what you bought in terms of the pressure setting of the PRV.

If the PRV is blowing off too low for the compressor, and it's working properly, then yes, you bought one with the wrong release pressure. I have no way to determine if it's functioning normally, or has failed. Ask the folks you bought it from what the pressure release level is, K?

Cheers,

Bill

Definitely check the pressure setting of the new PRV, and I would check the accuracy of your pressure gauge, is it reading correctly? You had two PRV valves 'fail' and depend on one gauge reading, check the pressure gauge.
