While it is on, is it pumping air into the tank, at all?

Make sure you have clean power and no extension cord.

What is shutting off, the pressure switch or the motor reset?

Post answers as a comment here so I can follow the thread.

Cheers,

Bill

Got a multi-meter? Next I would check to see if, when the compressor shuts off after the few seconds of running, if power is still flowing from the switch to the motor. If it is, then the problem is probably at the capacitor or motor level.

When it shuts off after a few seconds of running, and power is not flowing to the motor after it shuts off, then the problem is quite likely the pressure switch failing.

Craftsman 919.155730 air compressor - http://www.about-air-compressors.com

Do you what pressure my craft mans 919-155730 air compressor is suppose to build up to before it automatic Shuts off?

Hi Richard...

The cut out pressure for your Craftsman 919.155730 air compressor is approximately 125 PSI? Within a couple of pounds pressure of that, either a bit higher or a bit lower, your compressor should shut off.

When you start using air, when the tank pressure falls to 100 PSI, give or take a couple of PSI, your air compressor should start.

As a comment here, why not tell us why you ask?

Cheers,

Bill

Compressor wont turn off

I have a 33 gallon upright air compressor. Its only 1 year old and when I turn it on it builds pressure up to 110 psi and wont turn off. I have the pressure set at 90 lbs. Whats the deal?
_________________
The deal is that if the compressor ordinarily shuts off at a cut out pressure less than 110 PSI, then it suggests your pressure switch has failed.

If, on the other hand, your normal cut out pressure level is higher than 110 PSI, and the compressor pressure never gets that high, then the compressor cannot shut off as it never reaches the cut out pressure level. That being the case, you want to read the pages linked from the sitemap troubleshooting section about compressors that don't build pressure properly.

Last, when you say "I have the pressure set at 90 lbs" what did you set at 90 PSI please?

Cheers,

Bill
