PROBLEM with a compressor

I have a 1.7 hp 25 gal compressor, recently while using the compressor to blow some vacume filters clean, the safety valve began bleeding the tank when I tried to start it back up it tripped the circuit breaker, continues to trip the breaker every time I try to turn it on, the compressor is only about 1.5 years old, and is only used sparringly and not abused, any help would be appreciated....

The cause of your problem is likely that your pressure switch needs fixing...its not venting between start ups.

Problem with compressor

Howdy, and thanks for your question.

I think this is what's going on, but know that I'm not a mechanic or electrician. Maybe someone else out there who is can comment?

The safety valve, or pressure relief valve will bleed air when the pressure inside the compressor receiver exceeds the PRV (pressure relief valve) factory set pressure, and it opens to bleed air from the tank. If that's happening, then the pressure in the tank is too high, or the PRV has failed. The latter rarely happens.

Why is the pressure too high in the tank? Your pressure switch may have failed, and isn't shutting the compressor off when the high level set pressure is reached.

This could be very dangerous!

If you must use your compressor before you get it fixed, carefully watch your gauge and shut the compressor off manually when it reaches 120 PSI or so.

Better yet, don't use the compressor until you have the switch checked out!

So, I think you've got one single problem, you need a new pressure switch. You can get a new one at www.compressed-air-equipment.com in the accessories section if you want.

Hope this helps.

Bill
