Pressure testing & certfication

by Chris Poole
(Nottingham)

One of our St John Ambulance units has a portable air compressor for inflating tyres on ambulances and mobile first aid units.

At what pressure do I need to have a certification of pressure testing?

Bill doesn't know...

Hello Chris, and hello to Nottingham. Thanks for writing in.

What requires the certification? You or the compressor?

Your portable unit will likely have the capability of pumping out 125 PSI (maybe more, maybe less) and as you point out, you'll be using it to fill tyres which normally need in the 30-50 PSI range, depending on the type of tire.

I know of no certification necessary for you to handle pressures at this level.

I ask if anyone else knows of any, please post a comment.

Thanks & Cheers,

Bill
