Pressure relief valve pops off before the motor stops.

My Bostich 2000P compressor doesn't shut off when it should. The pop off relieves the pressure with the motor still running.

Could be the pressure switch
by: Bill

This compressor scenario is commonly caused by a failing pressure switch.

The pressure switch turns on the compressor at the normal cut in point, but when the cut out pressure setting is reached, instead of stopping power to the motor, the switch stays on, power keeps flowing, and the pressure keeps building until the PRV blows.

This is a dangerous scenario.

I suspect you want to replace the pressure switch before you use the air compressor again.
