Pressure Relief Valve blowing off before set pressure is reached

I have a porter cable, 6 gallon air compressor. My problem is that the pressure relief valve will blow at about 130-135psi. The pressure shut off valve is set at 150psi (i.e. the motor cuts out at 150psi) so essentially the valve blows before the correct pressure is reached. How can I fix this?

Thanks.

Jenn, has the compressor always had a cut out set point of 150 PSI? And, before, did the compressor cycle properly from cut in to cut out at 150 PSI without the PRV popping off?

The cut out pressure level of 150 PSI seems a bit high, but that depends on the model of air compressor. The PRV popping off at 135 PSI seems a bit low.

So, if all systems are working normally except the PRV letting go at 135 PSI, then you need to visit the store and get a new PRV, I think.

Cheers,

Bill
