Plug in compressor hear loud hum.

Just got a used compressor and hooked up to 230v and hear a loud hum but nothing moves. I can rotate by hand so it is not frozen. What could cause this?

The hum, I think, is your motor not starting, but it wants to.

Your motor may have a starter, and if that isn't boosting the start, the inrush current isn't high enough to get the motor going.

I suspect you need to have the starter and motor checked.
