overheating at the first stage.

On a two stage compressor the first stage cylinder is overheating, what can be causing that?

Hello John.

The cylinder heads on all reciprocating air cylinders get very hot. That's why the air line into the tank from the head must be of a heat resistant material.

In your case, I'm understanding that the head is getting hotter than normal, yes?

Overheating can be caused by insufficient lubrication, mechanical wear that's increasing friction, maybe even a partially blocked transfer line generating more heat as the air flows through the reduced orifice... many issues.

I wish I could be more specific, but I don't know enough about your compressor installation to do so.

Bill
