Overheated head on cylinder must have lost compression

the piston ring appears to be made from a copper ring... is there a possibility the exhaust gasket has been compromised instead? in your opinion which part would be the first to fail in a situation where pressure valve never stopped pump leveling out around 120 psi until I noticed the paint flaking on the heatsink. afterwards 50 psi is about all I could get out of it.

Pretty hard to provide any specifics when I don't have any idea what make or model of air compressor you refer to.

If you care to add specifics as a comment here, maybe some of our visitors can help?
