One weird problem

I got an old sears compressor, had the reed valve dropped and thats all. the screw holding the reed valve was stuck inside the one way check valve, got a new valve, replaced the reed valves in the head. new pressure switch as well just to check.

And my issues is that it turns on starts pumping normally, then as the pressure builds up the electric motor starts to struggle and starts to slow down, gets warmer and warmer, and where to a point where the pressure is at 40 psi, and the motor wont turn anymore, so i have to shut it off manually so i wont burn the motor out, does it need a new motor or compressor pump? i cant decide, as to which is gone nuts, as i know its driving me nuts now. new pressure switch, 2 horse motor, single stage dual piston pump, new one way check valve,
???????
any help is appreciated.

Howdy. First off, I don't know what this... "had the reed valve dropped and thats all" means.

Does it means that you had the reed valve replaced, and in the process the screw fell into the tank line somehow, and jammed the check valve?

Your symptoms are those of a load build up that is ultimately overloading the motor, and it heats up to the point where you shut it down, or it goes into thermal overload, and won't run again until it's cool and / or you push the reset button.

Before I had the pump or electric motor checked out, based on what you have written, I'd carefully check out the reed valve(s) to ensure that they are installed and seating properly.

If they are good, take the motor into an electric motor rebuild shop and ask them to do a load test. If the motor checks out, then it's something going wonky in the pump.

Cheers and good luck.
