One gallon mastercraft cage compressor with regulator problem

by Derek
(Ontario, Canada)

I started the compressor and after breaking it in as specified in the operating manual, I found I cannot adjust the output air (pressure) at all.

The gauge itself just stays at maximum pressure as does the main gauge. I would assume that it must be a faulty regulator.

I could replace it myself if I had another regulator, so I am going to call the manufacturer in the United States, and see if they will send me a new gauge.

Is this kind of problem unusual when purchasing a brand new compressor? Thank you for your comments.

Hello Derek:

No, I can't say that having a regulator fail immediately upon use of a new air compressor is common.

If you are seeing the pressure on the regulator pressure gauge, and turning the regulator knob isn't making any pressure change, then you may have a bum regulator.

If your compressor folks can't help you, you can pick up an after market regulator at relatively low cost. Here is information to help you size and select your compressed air regulator.

Cheers,

Bill
