I have a 26 gal Farm Hand compressor electric motor and pump ,which should build up to 120 psi and start back at 90psi instead it is labouring at 50psi{slowing up} as thou the motor is under back pressur, but when I take the copper line from the pump to the tank off there's no air coming back unless I press the valve with a screwdriver I never got the compressor work from new , can you help me to fix this problam ?thanking you in advance.

Reuben, there are a number of reasons why an air compressor will start to labor, or lug, as the pressure in the tank builds.

First issue to check is the power supply. If you are using an extension cord, it may be too small. If you are using an extension cord, stop, or obtain an industrial, heavy gauge cord. Is the power supply clean, or are other appliances using the same power supply at the same time? If so, that could be part of or all of the problem.

More information is available linked from the site map, under Troubleshooting.

Do some checks, and post here what you found, OK?

Cheers,

Bill

Thank you for your effort Bill, I turn every thing off except that one breaker and no extension cord it did the same thing, If I ran the compressor for 30sec turn off and start it again it turn under pressure .

When you pulled the line from the pump head to the tank, you said no air was coming out of the check valve (that's good) but when you ran the air compressor with that line off, did it run OK then?
