on off switch does not work

by Rick

The switch slides back and forth loosly and the compressor runs continiously and has to be unplugged to shut off.

Hi Rick. My compressor has an on/off switch, and what this does is opens or closes current flow to the pressure switch.

If my compressor is under-pressurized, that tank pressure is below normal cut in pressure, when I turn the switch to on, the compressor will start.

Pressure in the tank will build until the pressure switch senses that the pressure in the tank has reached the normal cut off pressure, and the pressure switch will then turn the compressor off, even though the on/off switch is on.

Regardless of the condition of your on/off switch, even if it's broken in a closed position, letting power flow to the pressure switch all the time, your pressure switch should shut off the compressor when the pressure in the tank reaches the normal cut out pressure level. If it does not, regardless of whether you changeout your on/off switch, you need to get your pressure switch working.

Cheers,

Bill
