old champion compressor bleeds out air pointing to unloader on older model Chamption

hey bill i enclosed a picture of me pointing to where the air comes out when pump kicks off, when pump kicks back on no air leaks, as soon as pump reaches 150psi and kicks off, air goes PSSHHHHH and comes out of a fitting with a hole with a filter screen thing. If it is unplugged, all the air leaks out till tank is empty. I dont know what is going on what do I need to replace?

I think you have a check valve that isn't seating or has failed.

PSSSSH sound

The Psssssh sound you here is supposed to be there, and the part is called "an unloader valve"...The check valve goes directly in the tank..the unloader releases some pressure when the compressor has filled. As far as the air leaking out, I say you have other problems in your fittings and/or connections, and is not cuased from the part where your finger is showing..that is normal.Get you some soapy water and fill the compressor up and spray EVERY connection on the rig and it's fittings.I bet you will find A leak from looking for bubbles.

Or, it might be a leaking check valve too.

old champion unloader
by: Rich

Its a centrifugal unloader behind the fitting, [spinning motion cause weights to extend internally and seal the control air off when the unit comes up to speeed, it stops and opens the valve back up unloading it] A better picture would tell me whether it was a schrader type or not. Some just get hung up from being rusty..
