Ok, got a question about rewiring a compressor

by Rick Guess
(San SAntonio)

i have an extra compressor in my garage at home, (as i use my large belt compressor)

it is a 110volt 15 amp, 2.5 gallon

i was thinking about putting it in my jeep for OBA, but I wanted to hard wire it and not have to use an inverter, can i re wire the compressor some how?

Bill says...

Sure Rick, you can do anything you want, as long as you have the skills for it.

If I understand you correctly, you want to run a 110 Volt electric motor from the DC power supply in your vehicle?

That being the case, two things come immediately to mind. One is that you will need a DC motor, and the other is that I suspect that your vehicle alternator won't be able to supply enough amperage to run a DC motor that's big enough to power the compressor.

Cheers,

Bill
