Oil mixed with paint when spraypainting
by DeeCee
(South Africa)
Hi, My name is DeeCee and I reside in Port Shepstone, Kwazulu Natal in South Africa.
I work for a panelbeating company and noticed that for the past few months there are a lot of complaints with the paint work (Fish eyes etc.)
Just recently we found that oil was present through the airline. What causes this and what can we do to resolve this problem?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you kindly,
DeeCee Pillay

DeeCee, you don't indicate what type of air compressor. Regardless, if it is oil lubed, then compressor lubricating oil is getting past the seals that are supposed to prevent that, and getting into the compressed air stream.
Not only will compressor oil create fish eyes, it also has a reputation for destroying buna N seals in air tools and the like.
Visit the site map and look for the COALESCENT FILTER link. Have a read about these. In my opinion you need to add one just upstream from the spray gun, to take the oil out of the compressed air stream.
Cheers,
Bill
