what type oil and how much for a speedaire 3Z494 compessor?

Regardless, you can't tell from a model number what the oil capacity is, unless you have the manual. That's your first choice for info on oil.

Failing that, drain the existing oil, and use that as a guide. Or, when refilling, use the oil-level gauge that is usually part of the oil dipstick, or the level on the sight glass.

As to the type of oil, first go with the recommendation of Grainger, and failing that, buy compressor lubricating oil from your local shop. I would think a liter/quart would be lots.
