by brian
(gibsons b.c. canada)

hello......i've been operating my comp. for at least 15 years now having trouble free service , but it seems to be sounding more & more sluggish as i use it , it also seems to run slower, my question is what type of oil should be used and how much ? as i cannot find a sight glass or dip stick . any other tips for preventive maintenance would be more than appreciated....thankyou

Bill answers...

Hello Brian:

Greetings. Nice to hear from Gibson. It's been a while since I stood on the dock (wharf??)at the bottom of the hill. Here's to Bruno Gerussi et al!

First thing is to visit this page, and follow the guides to getting in touch with the supplier of Speedaire Compressors.

They will help, they promised me!

Next, Google compressor repair for your area and find the local "guru" for air compressors. There's almost always one. Bring your compressor to them and ask them to change the oil. Watch how they do it. Ask how they know how much oil to put in, and what type of oil is recommended.

Next time, you'll have all the info you need.

And don't wait 15 years to change the oil. It's a wonder that your unit is working at all. Ask the pro's how often you should change the oil in your compressor. Certainly at least every two years if you use it minimally, once a year at least if you use it often.

Third, check back on this site in 10 days or so for the launch of the ebook The Home Compressor. Many, hopefully all, of your home compressor questions will be answered there.

Cheers,

Bill
