oil blowing out the vent holes on Ridgid compressor

the reservoir on my 5 gallon Rigid electric mobile air compressor seemed empty so I bought some synthetic air compressor oil from home depot and filled up the reservoir.

when I started it it began to blow foamy oil out of the vent holes in the oil plug.

is this a situation where the piston rings are badly worn or is the foaming a result of using the wrong kind of oil?

Ridgid oil

You say "is this a situation where the piston rings are badly worn or is the foaming a result of using the wrong kind of oil?"

Could be rings, though I don't know how old the compressor is or its usage history.

Probably not the oil if you acquired air compressor oil.

If the situation is new, it could be a combination of overfilling and air leakage.

How did you measure the amount of oil to go in?
