Not sure will my pressure control switch kicks in

My air compressor

My air compressor

Hello, I'm from Malaysia and I have a FIAC ECU 200 air compressor which I bought many years ago but stopped using it.

Lately, I took it out of my storage to use, plugged it in and the compressor is still working but the tank leaks at about 90psi. managed to get it fixed with a new gasket but now the compressor won't stop running. I shut it off at about 120 psi just in-case the tank blows.

I am aware that the rated cut in and cut off psi is indicated on the cover of the pressure control switch but unfortunately my cover is missing so I have no idea when is it supposed to cut off.

I need to know should I just leave it and let run and hope that the compressor stops at some point or do I have a faulty pressure control switch?

By the way my air compressor air displacement is 250ltr per minute. 8.8 CFM, Max 8 bar 114psi. 2860 RPM, 6 litre air tank. 1.5HP

Appreciate any advise you can give. Thanks in advance.

Rgds,
Gene Chee

Hi Gene:

Yes, it sounds to me like your pressure switch has failed.

You should be able to replace it, even with an off brand, if you get one that's adjustable as to the cut in and cut out pressure levels and works with your unloader valve.

Do you recall what the cut in and cut out pressures were when it was running normally?

If you aren't sure, don't guess, and don't let the compressor run until the PRV valve pops, just in case it doesn't.

Do you know where this compressor was purchased? If so, they could help you with the switch or switch settings.

The follow is a site that might help:
