New tank for Sanborne B109BL300-22?

by Anthony

Is there anywhere to get a fair price on a tank for this unit.

I brought it used about 5 years ago, and it was brand new looking.

The guy said it was the factory oil, and it was brand new looking.

It still runs and builds air great, but had developed a pin hole.

Cheapest replacement I find is close to $300.00 plus shipping.

One is a universal type, and one is said to be for the sanborne.

To me that is too much money to put into a compressor.

What about buying a used tank.

Is there a way to tell the condition?

I don't have a bore scope to look inside, I guess you just take a chance.

Anthony, pinhole leaks in a compressor tank point to widespread rust damage on the inside, and you don't want to pressurize it any more. Don't use your compressor until you get a new tank, please.

If you buy used, you get what you pay for. No guarantees!

A lot of big box stores are selling air compressors with a comparable sized tank for $100 - $120 for new. Buy one of these, replace the pump with yours, keep the new pump and controls as spares, and you are back in business.

That's what I would do.

Cheers,

Bill

$100.00 compressor

well if I could find one with a 20 gal. tank new for $100.00, that would be good.
But all I see for that price is like 2 to 10 gallon.
Maybe home depot?

Home Depot maybe, TSC maybe, Harbor Freight, I saw one when I visit Lowe's on line after reading your post... almost any of the big box stores have 20 gallon compressors in the $100 - $150 range. Good luck.

compressor run problems

by sam
(Pueblo Co)

I have 5hp sanborn compressor single cylinder. I recently moved to another state and the house I move into did not have a 220 plug in so I installed one. fired up the compressor and it was really slugish at first and then it just stopped (actually blew the breaker. So I check the motor, belt, and oil no problem. What I did find out if I disconect the main line going into tank or the small line going to the unloader valve it will run all day. So I changed out the pressure switch assembly and the same problem is still there. Seems to me that I have pressure over the piston but I do not what to do about it. Can you help me with some advice. Thank you, Sam

Sam, empty the tank, remove, clean and replace the tank check valve.

Recently my compressor started tripping j the breaker. Now when I flip the switch, there is a hum but it won't fire up. Trying to check everywhere for a short, but any other ideas?

See the troubleshooting page about air compressors that trip the breaker and those that hum for a whole bunch.

Thank you for your quick reply. Yes, I did check the check valve in the tank. It is working fine. I am having the motor checked out now.
