New Puma Compressor serious wiring defect?
My new Puma compressor has a Subaru EX-17 gas engine.
The engine will start with the pull cord, but when I installed the factory supplied battery to try a powered start there was some sparking and smoking as soon as I attached the red positive cable to the battery.
Upon closer examination I found the red positive cable is bolted to the side of the metal ignition cover which is bolted/grounded to the engine, from the factory (WTF!)
I checked the continuity between the ignition cover, and engine, and compressor head, and frame... all are grounded to each other.
I thought I could just move the positive cable to the positive side of the starter solenoid but I checked the continuity between the solenoid posts and there is continuity there too, with the switch off, and the positive cable not hooked to anything!
Anyone have suggestions?
I am in Calif. and Puma's Warranty requires me to ship it to Tennessee.
