New capacitor blows after 10sec

by Conor
(Donegal, Ireland)

Folling a post about a part I was looking for I found out that its called a capacitor. After finding 1 which was'nt an easy job due to where I am located, the back of beyond I believe it to be called, I fitted it and hooked it up to the power. Pulled the switch and off she went. Great I taught. Back in business. Well for about 10 seconds at least. The 10 seconds ended in the new capacitor going to capacitor heven in a cloud of white smoke. Great I taught, back to square 1.

Any reason why this happened?

Just a reminder, its a 3hp single phase (230 volt) 200ltr air compressor made by Shamel.

Cheers in advance,
Conor.

Conor, I am not an electrician.

I've moved this post to the electrical troubleshooting page in the hope that an electrical guru out there can help.

Cheers,

Bill

Cheers Bill. much appriciated.

After being out of work for a year and a half and spent the last 6 month building a work shop that i'm only about a week away from finishing, this is a bit of a set back for me. I've put all I have into this new venture and the well is pretty much dry now. I hope It can be sorted extreamly economicaly.

Again thanks for your reply.

Regards,
Conor.

If the Motor is good then, Please tell me why it will not run?.

by Carl wilkins
(Morganton NC)

Had the motor checked, motor is fine.

Check power, I am getting power all the way up to the motor.

I can not figure out why the motor will not run.

When I watched it run when being checked.

Any Ideas. Wilkinsrepair@bellsouth.net

Motor won't run
by: Bill

If you have power to the motor and the motor won't start, check the connections of, and the function of the start capacitor.

See how on that page on this site.
