my Kobalt compressor does not shut off but it does reach a psi of 125.

I have a hunch that it needs to have the regulator removed and replaced what are your thoughts on the matter..

Kobalt model number
by: Bill

Robert, I think the part number may be Kobalt 0200382, is that possible?

If so, it's a 155 PSI Portable Electric Air Compressor.

Since your air compressor only reaches 125 PSI and keeps running, then its got a problem.

See the troubleshooting page about air compressors that run but don't build pressure for details.

Kobalt compressor keeps running
by: Bill

In the absence of model number, I cannot check to see what the normal cut out pressure setting of your air compressors is.

However, if it normally shuts off before the pressure reaches 125 PSI, then your pressure switch is likely the culprit.

If it cuts out after 125 PSI normally, and the pressure never gets to the cut out point, and the compressor keeps running, that's already covered on many of the troubleshooting pages, Robert.

Have a look at those pages, do the checks referred to, and then post your findings here if you wish.

As to "I have a hunch that it needs to have the regulator removed and replaced" that depends on the part you are referring to as the regulator. Are you actually referring to the compressor air regulator, or are you perhaps referring to what I would call the pressure switch? See the pages that explain the difference on this site as well.
