My Craftsman 12-Gallon 1 HP Model No. 921.166400 Compressor Won't get above 20 PSI in the tank

by Web Tileston
(Annandale VA)

Compressor is only about 1 1/2 years old. Has been used very seldom. Just use it to rotate tires every 7000 miles on four cars and to do some nail gun work. All of a sudden the pressure in the tank doesn't get above 20 PSI. We checked the head bolts and performed some leak checks with soapy water. Haven't found anything. Any suggetions? Thanks. Web

Hello Web. Compressors that won't build pressure seem to be in fashion these days.

Based on the trend I'm seeing, I'm guessing valves or internal gaskets have failed and air is leaking out the intake valve as fast as it's being compressed.

Did you see this page on on why compressors commonly don't build pressure?

Good luck.

Bill
