My compressor won't shut off.

My compresor won't shut off. I replaced the pressure switch and still it won't shut off.

Howdy, and thanks for writing in.

If you flip the wall switch to turn the light off, and even though you move the lever, the light stays on, what's your first thought? The switch has failed would be mine.

By flipping the lever on the wall switch, you are cutting off flow of electricity, and that shuts off the bulb.

The pressure switch "flips the lever" on the flow of electricity to your compressor motor. If you "flip the switch to off" and the motor still runs, then you still have electricity flowing to the motor.

Inside your pressure switch you still have a circuit connected, and I suspect that it's because the points have fused together.

This, if so, suggests that there is a wiring problem, and you need to get some help with that.

Cheers,

Bill
