My compressor will start off turning OK then it started slowing down to a stop.

The motor continues to force the belt, but it seems the Pump mechanism is the culprit.

I am not sure and I have changed the oil with new compressor oil as the other stuff seemed milky.

The pump seems to be loud, but it is a big shop compressor and it is used, but new to me. What are your thoughts and how can I fix it? Thanks

As the pressure in the tank builds, there is more back pressure for the pump and compressor to deal with.

A compressor that is working well is designed to overcome that increasing pressure, and still work normally to get the pressure in the tank to the cut out level.

You say that the motor forces the belt. Does this mean that the belt is moving in the pump sheave, perhaps squealing or burning through friction?

That being the case, it could be as simple as a sticking check valve, or it might be a mechanical issue in the pump.

If, on the other hand, the motor slows too as the pressure in the tank builds, then I would look to having the motor checked, perhaps rebuilt or replaced.

Cheers,

Bill
