My compressor vibrates too much. Causes the belt to flop around and eventually falls off.

by Mike McGowan

The single piston compressor has a 3/4 HP motor. New motor, new pulley, new belt. The air compressor is about one year old. I have check the alignment and flywheel which was new. The flywheel seems to be good, no run out on the belt grove. I am sort of puzzled. Any help would be great.

Hi Mike. Nice to hear from you and Vancouver.

I take it you rebuilt this unit. Did you use the same sized parts, or make any changes that way?

When it was rebuilt, did you lose or not replace any elastomeric (rubber type) mounts that might have absorbed some of that vibration?

We all know that it vibrates because something is out of true, and if the part that's out of whack is rotating, that's the source.

I can't pinpoint it from your description, but you've got an element that's out of true, for sure.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Any advice from any other readers is certainly welcome.

Bill
