My compressor doesn't seem to power my die Grinder

by Bob
(Arlington Hts. Ill.)

I have a Sears compressor with a 5 gal tank. It used to run my grinder for sanding etc but now it stops with the least of resistance. I bought another grinder thinking that was the problem but it is the same. I can fill tires on the cars so some flow is going through. Is this a pressure valve issue?
Bob

Bill says...

Howdy Bob.

When you put the grinding wheel to a job, the wheel stops...is that right?

If it isn't the grinder, and the fact that you have a new one suggests that it isn't, then it has to be a pressure / flow issue.

Either there is not enough flow getting to the grinder to power the vanes or the pressure getting through is so low that the air hasn't the force.

If you are certain that the air line from the compressor to the grinder isn't damaged or kinked, then I'm thinking that you may have a regulator problem. It may have malfunctioned so that it's not letting enough flow through to maintain the pressure downstream of itself.

Cheers,

Bill
