Yup, sure sounds like a failing pressure switch.

The diaphragm that reacts to the changing air pressure in the switch alternatively pushes against, or relaxes from a spring. When the pressure settings for the switch are adjusted (if they are adjusted) the spring pressure is actually what is changed.

Unless you have made a change to the pressure settings yourself, I surmise that either the diaphragm or the spring has changed, and this is allowing the switch to trip at the lower cut out pressure setting.

It were me, I'd change the switch.

Cheers,

Bill

My Central Pneumatic Comp. will not shut off
by: Bill Moran

Hi I have a CP compressor model # 94667. It will not shut off and only builds up pressure to 70 #s. I called Harbor Freight and they told me it was the unloader value, but guess what they do not handle them any more. What can I do to get it to work right.
Thanks
Bill Moran

If the compressor keeps running, and the air pressure in the tank reaches a level and won't rise, even if the compressor stays running, then it might be the unloader valve. You can check that by putting your finger under it and feeling for blow off when the compressor is running. There should not be any.

I suspect, however, that you may have either a valve or gasket leak problem, or both.

Put your finger near the intake port. Is air being pulled in? Do you get any huffing out? If you get air out, then the intake valve is suspect.

If the intake is one way, as it should be, then my next guess would be the gasket between the intake and the tank path inside the compressor.

Good luck.

Bill
