my compressor runs and builds up to just over 20 lbs of pressure and won't go any further and continues to run what do i do to correct this problem?

You aren't alone.

Of all of the troubleshooting pages on this website, the one that tries to address the "compressor won't build pressure" problem is the one that's hit on most often.

Please read all of the comments and answers at the bottom of the page to see if anything there relates obviously to your problem.
