My 2 stage compressor reaches 60psi and thd motor slows and gets hot. Wondering if the motor is tierd. I have a champion r-15 pump and running 5hp 220v leeson motor. thanks for your help.
Bill says...Hi Drew. Your compressor motor slows and gets hotter than usual as it can't handle the increasing load of compressing air into the tank against the air that's already compressed in there. In your case, that's about 60 PSI.
Things to check and the one way (check valve) between the cylinders, the check valve going into the tank, might as well check the intake valve filter, if there is sufficient oil in the sump, and if all these are OK, then you are developing a mechanical failure in the compressor itself, or the motor is getting tired.
Also, make sure that there is sufficient amperage getting to the motor. A choked supply of power (something else using too much power on the same circuit) can contribute to motor slowing and overheating.
