My 25 HP Gardner Denver we have to push the reset button every time before it will start

I have a 25 HP Gardner Denver compressor . We have to turn it on and push the reset button every time to start it.

Do you mean, Laney, that the compressor shuts off on reset and you push the button to restart the compressor, or do you mean that the air compressor reaches cut out pressure level, stops when the pressure switch shuts off the power to the motor, and then, when the pressure in the tank drops to below cut in, your compressor will not start & you have to push the reset then?

Comment here please so I can follow our discussion.

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Bill - looking for reasons why my compressor is doing what you said in the answer earlier - "air compressor reaches cut out pressure level, stops when the pressure switch shuts off the power to the motor, and then, when the pressure in the tank drops to below cut in, your compressor will not start & you have to push the reset then?"

It's a small compressor and I was filling a truck tire. Pump was running to provide enough air and then it shut off, air forced out through black box switch and threw the reset. If I turn the switch off, push the reset and turn it on again, it will run and fill, but once it hits full it stops, kicks out air and trips the reset and will not re-start.

Thoughts?

Dump the tank air, if the compressor will start, monitor the unloader valve to make sure it works. See that page for more details.

From a cold start or anytime we start the compressor. We have to push the reset before it will start up.
