Red button on motor pops out after desired pressure is obtained but will not restart after pressure drops below the set pressure. Has to be reset manually. 90 gallon tank.

I suspect it's power related.

Either your extension cord is too small, your power supply to the socket is compromised, or your capacitor may be failing.

Do check all three and add a comment here if that's not what it was.

I have a 200 psi unit that ran great the first few times I ran it, that was about 4 years ago. I'm like most diyers,it's not used regularly but when I need it it should work. For the past 4+ years the motor will get hot after 1-3 minutes of running and shuts off, I have to turn the power switch off and wait 2-3 mins. It has been annoying up till now. Now I'm trying to use a paint gun for 450' of trim and it's been 3 hrs and I only have 144' complete. It's gonna be a long night.

motor breaker trips
by: Doug in

Are you certain it trips just as pressure is reached? Or is it tripping after the air runs down and trips when it tries to re-start?

Either way, try reading the sections relating to this in the troubleshooting section and let us know what you find.

Info on your electrical setup and compressor model might be good to know, too.
