Motor lags and blows fuse...

I have a 1 1/2 hp speedaire that won't start before blowing a fuse...The motor has just been rebuilt...From a zero pressure in the tank it starts and does fine but when there is pressure in the tank the motor lags and then blows a fuse.I can hear the unloader release air after after it shuts off...if I take the fitting off the line that runs to the unloader, the motor starts fine..I'm lost...could it be the tank check valve?..
thanks for your time..
Eric

Eric, good that you checked the UNLOADER VALVE, as that is the first place I look when this happens.

Yes, sure, re & re the check valve to make sure it's clean and working properly.

When a compressor is unable to start against load, and the mechanical part of it is OK, then I would next look to make sure that you have clean power to the compressor, and if you do, then I'd look next to the start capacitor.

There is info on this site about how to test capacitors.

Cheers,

Bill
