Tony, kind of you to offer your email address, though I've removed it.

For the benefit of all the other persons that may have a problem with this motor, it would be good if the discussion were posted here for all to access.

Thanks.

Your motor should be an a/c single motor made by A.O. Smith. I have the same compressor , and my motor runs fine but I have a broke piston rod . There are several things that could be wrong with your motor . This motor does not have brushed or a commutatir . The man who answered your question is describing a D/C motor. I work on very large a/C and d/C motors. I can help you trouble shoot it.

Rebuild the motor?
by: Doug in s.d.ca

Maybe. Check the brushes - sounds like they may be shot or stuck away from the commutator.

If you disconnect power, and measure (ohms) across the motor terminals, it should read near short. If open then brushes or motor windings, the latter being rebuild time.
