Husky compressor model number 947265

Husky compressor model number 947265

my air compressure will only build up pressure to about 50 pounds, then shuts off.

I have to unplug it for about 5 minutes.

then plug it back in, it will build up a little more, then shuts off again.

Husky model number 947265 shuts off

From the description, it sounds as though the motor is overheating, shutting the compressor down on thermal cut out, to help prevent damage to the motor.

It's hard to diagnose a specific issue, but things you need to watch for are...

- are you running the compressor too long at one time
- is the power supply compromised by use of an extension cord, too small breaker (20 amp is best), or other items pulling power from the same circuit at the same time
- check to see when it shuts off if the pressure switch is still closed, and sending power to the motor circuit. If the pressure switch opens and stops power at 50 PSI, then the switch itself is suspect
- next on the list is the run cap and you can check that yourself. See the page about how on this site.
