Model 919.167320 won't shut off for nothing

I have a craftsman model 919.167320 that starts fine, runs fine, builds pressure fine, but won't shut off for nothing. Any suggestions? Thx

As I stated above my compressor starts and runs fine but won't shut off when it builds pressure. I'm not very compressor savvy so any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Could this be the pressure release valve?
by: Bill

Could be, I suppose. What's the normal cut out, and is the tank pressure exceeding that level?

When you say "Well I evidently didn't bother to let the motor run long enough because after an estimated ten minutes or so it did finally shut off", if the fill time is longer than original or normal, that indicates that there is an issue with the pump, possibly valves, gaskets or piston seal.

Further diagnostics

Well I evidently didn't bother to let the motor run long enough because after an estimated ten minutes or so it did finally shut off. One thing I did notice was that I heard an air leak of some sort during the whole waiting process yet when it went off there was no such noise. Could this be the pressure release valve?
