Craftsman air compresor model # 919.165250 ~ will not build up pressure

by Pat L

Pump appears to be working fine good air intake, will not build up pressure. I have replaced the check valve, and regulator.

Bill answers...

Hi Pat. Welcome to you. Thanks for visiting my site and for writing in.

I've moved this question to the "My Compressor Won't Build Pressure" page, as it is certainly a common problem.

I'm not sure why you replaced the regulator, as that only affects the air as it leaves the tank and heads for your air tools. Did you mean, by chance, the pressure switch?

Compressors won't build pressure for a number of reasons. Mechanical, air leakage, misplaced gaskets, failing motor... all of these are addressed in the questions and answers at the end of this page. Why not have a read and see what sounds like your compressor?

Cheers,

Bill

Gasket fixed it
by: Mike

It was the head gasket, Sears gasket kit $14.99. Blew out the seal between intake and exhaust sides of the cylinder.

sears compressor 919.165250

After replacing the check valve, it was "sticking" and replacing the regulator ( donit ask me why I did this???) I finally replaced the compression ring.
The process was painless I accessed SEARS parts & replacement services online www.sears.com/partsdirect I ordered the replacement kit # K-0650. The kit arrived in 3-4 days very inexpensive. It took me all but 1/2 hour to install. Of course by this time I had become an expert at dismantling and reassembling.

I highly recomend the sears parts direct web site extremely useful. Kudos to SEARS American made

On this "compressor will not build pressure" page there is a link entitled; "I've just added a page that summarizes many of the answers about why a compressor won't build pressure. That page is right here."

Did you get a chance to look at any of the items that are listed on this page.

It would be helpful in diagnosing your compressor problem to know what you found.

Cheers,

Bill
