Hello Kinley...

An electric motor turns a shaft. This shaft connects to a crank. This crank reciprocates a piston which, alternatively, ingests and expels air into a closed vessel. Since the vessel is closed, air forced into it increases in pressure.

As you read the pages of this site (you do do that, don't you?) you will note that there are many varieties of air compressors, and to try and provide the information you seek is nigh unto impossible.
