Master Craft 10 gallon air compressor won't start I have only had it 2 months?

Air compressor just makes a buzzing noise and it smells burn. I have only had it for 2 months. It is a Master Craft 10 gallon air compressor! What would make it not start?

Tom, empty the air from the tank (if there is any in it) and plug the compressor directly into a wall socket with a power supply from which nothing else is pulling power from at the same time.

Any change?

Cheers,

Bill

Piston rod that connects to your crank shaft is seized up.If your start capacitor is good.

The air compressor was plugged into a wall plug and the tank was empty. What else can I try to get it to start?

Tom, emptying the tank before trying to start it took a bad unloader valve out of the equation. Plugging it directly into a wall socket ensured that you were not strangling the power supply with a too small extension cord.

The buzzing sound is the motor trying to start, I suspect.

Assuming there is nothing mechanically wrong with the pump (that it will actually reciprocate without undue load to the motor) I suspect your start capacitor has a problem. Please see that page under electrical issues linked from the site map.
