m pump motor hums 15 seconds then starts.

Chinese made 120v. single phase domestic water pump motor used to start promptly when pressure switch trips. Has begun to take up to 15 seconds of humming before it starts.Then it starts normally and pumps water with no
outward signs of a problem. Question is why, and is this a dangerous issue for burning out the motor or for starting a fire. Motor gets warm but not overly hot.

Ben, I don't do water pumps, as this site is about compressed air. However, I think that you need to check the pump motor start capacitor. It sounds like, unless you are siphoning off power to the pump to other appliances and under-powering the pump motor circuit, that the start capacitor may be failing.
