Dayton speedair Industrial duty air compressor. Model 3z198A Single stage CCW 5 HP.

Used compressor all day and it worked fine. I heard compressor leaking a lot of air so I went to check it out. Found a nut, leaking air from it center, in front of the cylinder where the air goes through. The nut appears to be missing it's center part. I'm guessing it is some sort of pressure safety plug or something. Is this enough information? I can provide you with more information if you can show me me a part scematic.

I have not been able to find any information about your Model 3z198A.

While the photo is excellent, it's a bit out of context, and I cannot determine from it where this part is located on the compressor.

If the line coming in from the right is connected to the tank check valve, then what you may have is a leaking check valve, and I would pull, clean, test and replace that to see if the problem was resolved.

Losing air from compressor Model 3z198A

Thatt's the unloader valve. Does it lose air while its running or after the pump stops?

Leaking air while running= Bad Unloader valve

Leaking after pump has stopped running- Bad check valve

how to change regulator setting

where to find a copy of manual or manual for comparable model

Annette, Grainger is still selling parts for this compressor, though the compressor itself has been discontinued. So, if you haven't contacted them yet, that's a good place to start.

See the Regulator link in the left navigation bar to read all about regulators, how they work, and how to adjust them.

Speedaire 3z492, worth the investment?

by Mark
(Oklahoma)

Looking at a speedaire 3z492, 3 phase motor, 80 gallon tank. Plate says 420 and 700 rpm.

Questions........I dont have 3 phase power, but do have a number of 220vac motors.

Does the two rpm values mean it's a 2 stage?

Is this a good deal for $500, assuming its in good shape and will run on the 220 motor?

As long as the replacement motor has the oomph to drive the pump (that probably means higher HP than the one you are removing, but I don't know for sure, as I'm not a motor guy - and as one recent commenter suggests... I know just enough to be dangerous!) then changing the motor shouldn't be an issue.

As to value, there are lots of places on the internet to check the prices of compressors, and that's the place to go to see what your compressor is worth new, worth as used, and if it fits your budget.
