Kobalt model F15DKL will fill tank but not kick back on when pressure drops

I have a Kobalt 5.5 gallon model F15DKL that I bought about 4 or 5 years ago brand new from Lowe's.

Not long after I bought it I started having a problem with the compressor not kicking back on after the pressure drops, I didn't worry with it at first because it was only every once in a while. In the last year or so it has become more regular, every time I use the compressor it will fill up the tank and after the pressure drops the compressor will not kick back on unless I unplug it for a few minutes and plug it back in.

Unloader and check valve
by: Bill

Did you check to see if the unloader valve is working?

How about the check valve, Thomas. Air moves through it easily in one direction but not the other?

Does it happen after first pressure drop?
by: Thomas

Yes it happens even after the first pressure drop.

Make sure the unloader valve is working, Thomas.

If so, then it may be that the motor is lugging and overheating.

Does this happen always, even on the first pressure drop after the compressor has filled once?
