this compressor is a campbell hausfeld 4.5 hp 20gal. the problem is once the tank is filled and i start to use the unit, it trips the breakers in my house, lights and what ever else on that circuit is cut off. what can i do to correct this problem??

Bill says...I take it that it doesn't trip the breaker when you are using the air, but rather, when the unit tries to restart at cut in pressure, right?
Try this. Open the drain valve in the tank, with the compressor plug pulled. Drain all the air form the tank down to zero PSI. Close the tank drain, and plug the compressor back in.
What happens?
If the compressor starts OK, and builds up to normal cut out pressure, and then you pop the breaker when it tries to restart at the normal cut in pressure point, you need to look to your unloader valve.
Go to the Valve page, and click the unloader valve link for more information.
If this doesn't work, add a comment to this thread to that effect, and we'll got to plan "B". :-)
Cheers,
Bill
