Jun-Air pancake compressor- wont shut off

by victor
(austin, tx)

I have a decade old Jun Air (wonderful, quiet, great pressure, but oil and maintenance are expensive) which i got from a life in a lab- now i use it in my shop.

I use it sporadically, many times I'll switch it on for a few minutes, use it and then shut it off.

But this weekend i had it on, and noticed its hissing, and not cutting off (the hissing seems to be coming from the regulator - not the PRV). I want to overhaul this thing, but a Jun-Air dealer wants $200. Where can i start myself?

How can i troubleshoot the Pressure switch? I'm handy and not afraid to make a mess.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Victor, you have a failed pressure switch, and the hissing may mean that it's failed with the unloader valve open, hence the hissing.

Look under the pressure switch lid to see if it shows you the cut in and cut out pressures. Then, take that info and the pressure switch to a compressor repair shop and see if they can duplicate the pressure levels and the interface with the unloader valve.

If you want Jun Air manuals, check this page.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks for the feedback.
But knowing the Jun-Air compressor shop in Central Tx, they would likely charge me either way. Should i just plan on replacing it? Can i use a Non Jun Air pressure switch? ( i love the Jun-Air, but authorized service is pricey and overrated)

You can use any pressure switch that provides close to the same cut in / cut out pressures and interfaces with the unloader valve.

Of course, use of a non-Jun Air part may void any warranty you have on the unit, if any.
