Compressor will not start below 40 degrees

Oil supplied with compressor started to get thicker, especially when it got colder, oil not multi-viscocity. Compressor would not start the motor would not turn it over. I replaced the oil and the problem was solved.

But if you let the new oil get down below 40 degrees too, I'll be the problem will reoccur.

See the pages on compressor problems when trying to start them in cold weather.

Jobsmart - Tractor Supply compressor intake reed.

by Dan

After about six months of interment use it broke a intake reed value($2.00 each + s/h) . I called tractor supply and they emailed me a manual.

Would you like a copy of this manual for the site? (Dan's manual is live on the Jobsmart page now - ed.)

PS the reed values are very easy to change in this unit. Just have to make sure they are orientated the correct way.

Thanks

Dan

Dan, thanks for the manual. It is available for download for other folks now.

Also happy that the reed (valve) was easy to change on the Jobsmart, and also that you got some half decent support from Tractor Supply.

Cheers,

Bill

Jobsmart 10 gallon compressor humming, no pressure.

by Matt
(Illinois)

I picked up a second hand Jobsmart 10gal compressor from a neighbor. He said the compressor is basically new, only used a few times. After plugging in to power source I flipped the switch to AUTO. All I get is a humming from the motor. There is no pressure in the tank. I havent tried anything to diagnose the issue. Where should I start? I have tools to test and repair. Just not trying to throw money at it blindly. Thanks!

Matt, if your power supply is clean, and you are not using an extension cord or a power bar to power your Jobsmart air compressor, then the hum suggests to me that your start cap may be failing, and now is too weak to kick start the motor.

The next step then is to check your motor caps, and you can see the page on this site about how to do that.

Cheers,

Bill

Jobsmart does not build up air pressure?

My compressor runs but does not build up air pressor what can I do?
____________________
The obvious answer is to find out why. :-)

The first check I always perform is to remove the intake filter and feel if air is being pulled into the intake port on the compressor pump. That also takes the intake filter as the cause out of the equation.

There are other things to check for. Please see the troubleshooting section on the sitemap page for links to the pages about why air compressors run and don't build air pressure for tips.

Post another question here as a comment once you have done some of the checks.

Cheers,

Bill
