Iwata compressor does not start

Hi Bill,

I have an Iwata Smart Jet pro air compressor, about 4years old and recently it has stopped starting up unless I give it a tap then it will work until it builds up to pressure and then stops again. Is there something I can do myself or do I need to send it away for repair.

The "tap" suggests that you are jolting the motor into going. It's a motor related problem from my perspective. If you are savvy enough to troubleshoot an electric motor away you go. I'm not, and if this were mine, it would be heading to the shop.

Could be something in the motor, or could be a loose connection most anywhere, or bad contacts on the pressure switch.

I'd suggest you get a meter hooked up there, and see if the power is getting out toward the motor when it fails to start.

Where are you tapping it exactly? It will make a difference with the diagnosis.
