Is the pressure switch working correctly on my Porter Cable C2000 WK

by Wally
(Indiana)

On my Porter Cable C2000 WK,(purchased in Oct 2004) the pressure switch lets the motor run until the pressure reaches 150psi. I thought it use to stop at 120psi.

Is my pressure switch working correctly?

First off Wally, if you haven't seen this safety warning, you should: http://www.portercable.com/SafetyAnnouncements.aspx?BlockID=08daef05-5247-4e0a-aa97-0768f27086fa .

As to cutting out at 150 PSI, I wasn't able to find the original specifications for this compressor, so I don't know the normal cut out pressure.

If the compressor used to cut out at 120 PSI and is now cutting out at 150 PSI, then yes, I believe your pressure switch is failing.

If you see the link at the bottom of the nav bars about compressors and compressor parts, you can see a selection of pressure switches there that might suit your compressor.

It is 150PSI -

Perhaps you've been looking at regulated pressure and it's failed or maladjusted?

Cut out pressure too high on Porter Cable air compressor

by ed

i have a porter cable pancake compressor that seems to work ok.

my problem is that its working pressure of 135psi max is too much for my use.

is there any way to adjust the cut-in & cut-out pressure of my compressore.
_____________
Ed, quite often pressure switch cut in and cut out pressure levels can be adjusted.

However, you do not want to do that.

If the normal cut out of your air compressor is 135 PSI, that means that you have a reservoir of compressed air in your tank that is at 135 PSI when your compressor cuts out. That is good.

Why?

Because when you use that 135 PSI air with the pressure knocked down to, say, 80 PSI, that reservoir of air will last longer before the compressor has to cut in again and fill the tank.

What you need to understand is how to use the air regulator that - I believe - is standard equipment on all Porter Cable (and other brands) air compressors.

See the air regulator pages on this site, or better yet, see "recommended reading" on the top right of the page, and click on the book about air regulators.

I wrote it for folks just like you.

Cheers,

Bill

Porter Cable compressor will not start

by Mrgomez312
(Cypress, TX)

My compressor will not start at all. I replaced the brushes on my C2005 and after reassembly, ran for a sec and then died.
_________________
Mr Gomez, you don't indicate the brand. I did a search and found that C2005 is a Porter Cable number, a fairly small, 6-Gallon Portable Electric Air Compressor.

Assuming your air compressor is allowing power through the switch to the motor circuit, and since you just replaced the brushes, is it possible there is a problem with the motor reassembly? That I cannot tell you from here.

Check the circuit to make sure there is power to the motor past the pressure switch, and also that power is getting through the capacitor as well. Let us know what you found as a comment here, OK?

Thanks,

Bill

Bill says...

Your options for parts support are to contact Porter Cable: www.portercable.com.

Ask the store where you bought the compressor what repair shop fixes their warranty compressor work and ask them.

Try to find a used comparable air compressor that may not have the same problems as yours and cannibalize it.

Hope that someone out there reads this post and can comment with a source.

Cheers,

Bill
