The page where you posted this comment explains the source of Kobalt Air Compressors, as much as can be determined, anyway.

While I am, myself, a user of a low cost DIY air compressor at home, I have no faith in the reliability of them, nor in sourcing replacement parts when they are needed.

The price we pay for saving money up front on a cheap air compressor is that ultimately, and often sooner rather than later, they are disposable.

If you plan on using an air compressor for making part of your living, visit a pro shop and buy an industrial air compressor. In the higher price will be long term support and a warranty that has value.

If just using an air compressor in the home workshop once in a while, the Kobalt will be as good as any.

My two cents, what they are worth.

Cheers,

Bill

NOISE

by Paul
(Huntsville, AL)

I recently purchased a 60 gallon, belt driven compressor from Lowes and when it started, it was so noisey I had to use ear muffs to work in my shop. Surely someone makes a muffler to go in place of the inlet cover to reduce the inlet noise. Kobalt, are you out there?

You cannot muffle the air intake as you would restrict the intake flow rate.

Cheap compressors are noisy!

compressor noise - I have to go outside to talk

by Nelson

My Kobalt compressor makes so much noise when it is running, that if my phone rings I have to go outside to talk

Nelson, yup, air compressors make a lot of noise, and since the DIY type are so cheap at the stores, there is no money in the price for the manufacturer to add sound dampening.

The issue as I see is is, is the noise louder now than before?

If the noise is getting greater, then something is going on with the compressor, and it likely won't be good.

I cover the noise issue in a number of different pages on this site. If you can centralize the compressor location, and it's not a compressor failing that's causing the sound level, you can enclose it to reduce the noise. Or, put the compressor outside and use a longer air line into your application. Don't use a longer extension cord to power the compressor.

Cheers,

Bill

What is the crankcase oil capacity of the 221495 ?

I've uploaded a photo of the Kobalt model 221495 which I obtained from the Lowes website.

While I could not find the specs for this compressor, the photo shows the oil sight glass on the lower left of the pump housing.

I would expect it would take about 8 oz of oil to bring the oil fill level in the site glass from not visible to the middle of the sight glass center dot, which is the correct fill level for the compressor.

Cheers,

Bill
